EAST YORKS: Snowdrops will be blanketing the historic woodland walk at Burton Agnes Hall.

Every year, thousands of hardy snowdrops push through the ground.

Simon Cunliffe-Lister said: "The snowdrops remind us that winter eventually gives way to spring and are a biblical symbol of hope.

The Snowdrop Spectacular runs from February 9 to March 3, from 11am to 4pm every day. At the end of the snowdrop opening, Burton Agnes holds its Orchid Festival on the weekend of March 2 and 3.

Expert advisers will give talks and take questions about how to care for orchids, and there will be slide shows and stalls selling orchid related goods.

EAST YORKS: A charity for deaf and blind people is urging residents to present their loved ones with a love message of Valentine's Day.

Volunteers at the Sense charity shop in 37 The Promenade, Bridlington, are urging people to pick up a kiss to win over that special person in their life.

A spokesman said: "In return for a small donation, you can write your very own love message and our friendly staff will put it in our front window display for the world and your loved on to see.

"The aim is to get a window full of kisses."

Anyone wanting to take part is asked to donate £1, which will help provide services and support for deaf and blind children and adults, as well as their families and carers.

EAST YORKS: Police are post coding cycles and scooters.

The sessions start on Thursday, February 21, at Wolfreton Lower School. They then take place at Anlaby Acre Head on Monday, March 4, and continue at Carr Lane, St Thomas Moore, St Andrew's and Springhead primary schools.

PCSO Natalie Bingham said: "This will help us return stolen property to the rightful owners and will make it a lot more difficult for the offenders to dispose of the stolen bikes."

The sessions are for students at the schools.

EAST YORKS: Nature on the coast winter walks start today.

The events, which also take place on February 13, 27 and March 13, have been organised by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, RSPB and Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

Guides will lead each group, starting with a cliff-top walk at Bempton Cliffs. The walk then moves on to Sewerby Hall and finishes at the new Living Seas Centre at South Landing Flamborough.

Tours cost £16, which includes food, drink and transport between the sites. Bookings can be made by calling Kim Smales on 01262 850959.
