Hull FC half-back rivalry will bring out best in Mark Sneyd

MARC Sneyd is adamant the number of half-backs at Hull FC is a positive thing – even if it doesn't guarantee him a starting spot.

The former Castleford Tigers standout arrives at the Black and Whites with a £100,000 price tag on his head, which from the outside looking in places much of the onus on the Oldham-born man to impress.

Despite joining from the Tigers via Salford Red Devils after a glittering season at scrum-half, the elusive Sneyd doesn't shy away from the fact that he and star-signing Leon Pryce have to impress FC coach Lee Radford, particularly with Jordan Rankin and Jordan Abdull waiting in the wings.

"That competition is really good in the halves and will bring the best out of each and everyone of us," Sneyd told the Mail.

"It's something to enjoy, to be honest.

"The half-back situation at Hull has been a problem over the last few years, but the plan is to get that fixed up with whatever combination Lee goes for.

"Whatever Radders goes with, we're all training at the same time and we'll hopefully click either way. Having this many half-backs will only be a good thing for Hull FC, I am sure."

Signed on a three-year deal at the KC, Sneyd knows all too well that he is expected to play a major part in solving FC's troubles in the halves, which have plagued the club for the best part of seven years.

Still at the tender age of 23, Sneyd admits he has plenty to learn, but says the security of a long-term contract ensures he can settle into life at the Black and Whites without worrying about playing for a new deal.

"It's great to get three years to give me some peace of mind, and it's a lot different than last year, where I was worrying where I would be playing," he said.

"I was left in the dark and wasn't in the know about what was going to happen at the end of the year.

"But it definitely helps to know that you're going to be with the same group of people for a long time."
