WILLIE Poching has been told to bring a fresh perspective to Hull KR when he finally starts his new role today.
Having been appointed as Chris Chester's new right-hand man at the beginning of September, the 41-year-old is set to officially start work at the KC Lightstream Stadium.
He will bring plenty of experience to the Robins after working under Brian McLennan and Brian McDermott at Leeds, before enjoying a hugely-successful spell as assistant coach to Tony Smith at Warrington.
During their time together at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, the duo led the Wolves to the League Leaders' Shield in 2011, a Challenge Cup win in 2012 and two Grand Finals.
After lifting the Grand Final and World Club Challenge in his playing days at Leeds, Chester knows the former second-rower has a winning mentality.
"I think we needed a freshen up on the playing and coaching side," he told the Mail.
"It can sometimes go a bit stale and I needed to bring someone in who is going to challenge me. Willie will do that. He is very experienced and they don't come much more experienced than he does.
"Willie has been in to speak to me about the standards I can expect from him and I explained what he can expect from me.
"I'm looking forward to working with him."
As well as overhauling his playing squad with a raft of changes, Chester has also reshuffled the Rovers backroom staff and a few more changes are in the pipeline.
Dave Hodgson's enforced retirement recently saw him moved onto the coaching staff as one of Chester's first appointments and the former KR winger has settled in the role quickly.
"Dave is fitting in really well," Chester added. "He was a very experienced player so he knows what he's talking about. He's been there and done it. When he speaks, the boys listen."
