RESIDENTS say they are glad to see the back of a "nightmare" neighbour who wreaked havoc in their street with fighting and shouting late at night.

Regan Ainley was evicted by bailiffs, backed up by three police officers, after she ignored repeated warnings from Hull City Council to clean up her act.

The authority's neighbourhood nuisance team acted after receiving numerous complaints from residents in St Paul Street, off Bridlington Avenue, city centre.

Philip Marchant, 51, who has lived in his council house for six years, said: "It was an absolute nightmare living next to her.

"Regan must have moved into her flat about two years ago.

"The main problem wasn't so much her, more her visitors.

"People would be banging on her front door at 3am.

"Earlier this year, we had the police out five times in one weekend because of shouting and fighting in the street."

Mr Marchant said he was glad Ainley, who is believed to be in her mid-20s, had been evicted.

He said: "It's been lovely and quiet these past few days since she's been gone.

"I saw her being evicted. She looked surprised. I don't think she had much time to pack up – about half an hour, I think.

"She was shouting at me, 'I'm going to get you, I'm going to get you!'

"I can't really blame her for being upset. She's lost her home. But she has brought it on herself.

"She was somebody you definitely did not want to be neighbourly with."

Amanda Blenkin, 49, agreed with Mr Marchant that it was mainly Ainley's visitors who were responsible for the problems.

"I moved here just before Regan did," she said. "To begin with I thought she was okay. She'd nod at you to say hello.

"But after two or three months all the problems began. I would get hardly any sleep, because there would be banging and shouting in the middle of the night.

"They used to fight and argue in my front garden."

Ms Blenkin praised Hull City Council for acting on their concerns.

"I know the council get slated a lot but they have been brilliant all the way through and they kept us all informed of what was going on."

Ms Blenkin said life is now peaceful in St Paul Street.

"I am finally getting to know people in the street," she said. "Before, people would not stop in the street because they didn't want to risk running into this woman."

Hull City Council worked with Humberside Police to gather evidence of antisocial behaviour associated with Ainley's rented property and presented it before Hull County Court on January 10.

Ainley was given a final warning, but when further antisocial behaviour was reported a warrant of eviction was executed on September 3.

Councillor John Hewitt, portfolio holder for neighbourhood and communities, said: "We would like to thank the residents who came forward and informed us of this unacceptable behaviour to allow us to take the appropriate action.

"This case demonstrates the key partnership working between Hull City Council and Humberside Police and our commitment to dealing with antisocial behaviour.

"Residents should not have to experience this type of criminal activity that reduces their quality of life."

It is not known where Ainley has moved to.
