Hull City-mad Sam Killelay thought he had the dream bedroom makeover after his beloved club's crest was spray-painted on to his wall.
But, the very next day, City revealed their new badge design.
Sam's parents say they are "gutted" after forking out £100 to redecorate ten-year-old Sam's room.
Last week, it was revealed City had abandoned the crest they had used for 13 years in favour of a controversial new design which does not include the club's name.
The popular Tigers head remains within a shield, accompanied only by "1904" – the year of the club's formation.
Sam's room was decorated on Thursday and the club revealed the new design on Friday.
But Sam, of Lancaster Drive in east Hull, is taking the setback in his stride and says he still prefers the old design to the plainer new one.
"I was very excited when my room was redecorated and I always wanted to have a Hull City bedroom," he said. "I have supported the team since I got interested in football and I have been a season ticket holder for the past two years.
"I was a bit upset when I heard about the badge being changed. It was strange and a bit annoying."

"The artist did a really good job and I think the old badge is better," he said. "The new one is a bit plain."
Mum Leanne admits she could not believe what had happened.
"We have been looking to redecorate Sam's room for a while and finally decided to do it last week," she said.
"He had the Hull City Tigers badge painted on the wall, but the next day, we heard the crest had changed.
"We forked out all this money only to find the badge was out of date the very next day.
"We were very disappointed, but what can you do?
"But, to be honest, Sam still loves his bedroom, which is the main thing."
Street artist Neil Deanes, known as Posto, was drafted in to paint the room. He has worked on the Urban Trends project in Spring Bank and recently created a marine scene on the walls of the Inkerman Tavern in Edgar Street, west Hull.
Sam's dad Darren said: "I knew of Neil and saw that he was a talented artist.
"We've just decorated our daughter's room and Neil seemed the perfect choice to paint Sam's.
"He did a great job but it was unbelievable when we heard the club had changed the crest.
"But we feel the old badge fits in better with the room.
"I think, under the Allams, we will see a lot of changes. Sam still seems quite happy so we won't be changing it any time soon."
Despite the setback, Sam is looking forward to next season.
"I think the team will do very well," he said. "I think we will remain in the Premier League and stay there for a good while. Hopefully, we will also do well in Europe."
