A man and a woman are today being questioned on suspicion of murdering a baby girl, police have revealed. The newborn baby, believed to be less than a week old, was found near a popular cycle path behind Rockford Avenue, east Hull, on Saturday evening. A post-mortem examination will take place this afternoon. The results will determine whether police seek a warrant for further detention of the two people who were arrested shortly after the body was discovered. They are both in their early 20s and remain in police custody. A Humberside Police statement said: "Police were called at around 7.15pm on Saturday, June 21, by a member of the public who found the body of a newborn baby girl while walking on the cycle path between Rockford Avenue and Lamorna Avenue. "Officers attended right away and closed off the area for the body to be recovered and for initial inquiries to take place. "Two people, a man and a woman, remain in custody at this time having been arrested on suspicion of murder." Anybody with information is asked to call the Humberside Police major incident room on (01482) 220328, quoting log number 616, of June 21.
