A MOTORIST caused havoc in a street in west Hull when he crashed into two cars and drove into a house.

The man was just setting off for work at about 4.15am yesterday morning when he collided with a parked Renault Clio and Ford Focus C-Max before crashing into the front wall of a woman's home.

Emergency services rushed to Parkfield Drive off Anlaby Road and took the driver to Hull Royal Infirmary after he was helped out of his four-wheel drive vehicle.

His family said he had suffered a "problem with his leg" when he lost control of the car and he is now at home recovering.

Heidi Rance, 36, assessed the damage to her Renault Clio after hearing a "loud bang".

She said: "My partner's alarm had just gone off for him to get up for work when I heard the crash.

"At first, I thought someone had stolen a car but then I realised it was our neighbour.

"I rushed outside and stayed with him until the ambulance came. He was just in shock.

"The whole street came out and there were two fire engines, paramedics and a traffic car."

Her car had its passenger window smashed, a door damaged and a front wheel bent.

"It was just a freak accident and these things happen," she said.

"I hear the man's leg had gone numb and he'd had problems with it in the past.

"He must feel awful but we are all just glad he's OK.

"The firefighters said it was just a good job there were no children out at the time, because they often play in front of our house. I am now sorting out the situation with my insurance company and hopefully I'll be able to get a new car.

"I bought it new a number of years ago but it is only a car.

"I feel sorry for the poor woman whose house has been badly damaged."

Other neighbours were still waking up to the news and gathered in the street yesterday morning to see the aftermath.

The car had ploughed into the home of an elderly lady, who said she was woken up by the noise and neighbours knocking on her door.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said: "I was just shaking and didn't know what had happened outside of my house.

"I didn't speak to the man because he was taken to hospital but I'm just glad it wasn't someone who had stolen a car.

"The fire service have helped to secure the front bay window and brick wall and my family are helping to sort things out."

They were seen sweeping up debris in the front room and garden as a pile of bricks remained under the broken bay window.

Fire officers left the situation in the hands of Humberside Police, who confirmed they had attended and officers breathalysed the driver, who was found not to have been drinking alcohol.

Motorists were being asked to be vigilant when driving down the street as debris and glass remained on the road.
