A NEW £80,000 Victorian- style bandstand has been unveiled in East Park.
The attraction, located at the front of the central pavilion, was officially opened by council leader Steve Brady at the weekend.
The stunning attraction was designed by Point Engineering, with work carried out by trainees from Hull Training, who helped carry out the construction.
Adam McArthur, of Hull City Council's Streetscene Services, said: "It is with great pleasure that Hull City Council, along with funding from Heritage Lottery Fund, is able to dedicate this new bandstand to the residents.
"East Park is an award- winning free visitor destination and I am sure this will be another attraction that visitors will appreciate in an already action-packed park".
City council horticultural officer Simon Race said it had been a good opportunity for young workers to be involved in the construction.
He said: "There was a bandstand in the park which was demolished some years ago.
"We've had planning permission for the new one since October last year and it's part of ongoing improvements in the park.
"It will hopefully be well used by local bands and choirs and has an electrical supply for a PA system.
"It's 5m high and looks fantastic. I hope families think it's a welcome addition to the area.
"The bandstand is about preserving the heritage of East Park and there used to be one in every park in Hull.
"It's something traditional and it looks fantastic."
The park also boasts the historical splash boat, water-play area, swan boating lake and animal education centre.
Local sea cadets helped unveil the bandstand at the weekend, which was constructed in steel and wood with a concrete base.
It is large enough to accommodate up to 30 musicians at any one time.
Janine Houghton, of the Friends of East Park group, said she hopes it will bring more families into the park.
She said: "It looks lovely from what I've seen of it and during Veterans' Weekend was a great time to unveil it.
"It takes the area back to how it used to look and bandstands are lovely for people to watch a concert in the sunshine."
