STAFF at an East Yorkshire chippie are celebrating food fit for royalty after a visit from the Duchess of Cornwall.
However she turned down an offer of batter "scraps" on her meal at Fish and Chips at 149 and instead accepted a slice of lemon.
Camilla and Prince Charles visited East Yorkshire yesterday, when they were congratulated by well-wishers on the birth of William and Kate's first child.Amanda Sowersby, manager of the business in Marton Road, Bridlington, said: "Out of habit I just asked her if she wanted scraps.
"She just looked at me and everyone else just laughed. Instead I offered her a wedge of lemon.
"It was a good experience.
"She ate the chips from her box with her fingers. I offered her a fork."
Owner John Hutchinson: "It was a real honour to host Camilla. We weren't sure how long she would be here for, but it was an awfully long time and we all enjoyed meeting her.
"I was so impressed with how lovely she was. She had our 'golden years' haddock and chips and she said it was the best thing she had eaten for a long time.
"I said 'Can I quote you on that ma'am?' and she said I could."
Cori Standing, 23, has been a fish fryer at Fish and Chips at 149 for three-and-a-half-years and cooked the royal portion, which was eaten out of a box.
"I think she is the most famous person I have fried for, definitely," he said.
After the fish and chips, the Duchess of Cornwall visited The Spa, Bridlington.
Manager Andrew Aldis said: "I did feel a bit nervous about it all but wanted to make sure she saw as much of The Spa as she could, especially the Royal Hall.
"It has been a great day for The Spa, but I was amazed with the amount of time the Duchess gave to all those who were waiting outside."
