THE long-awaited upgrade of Castle Street could uncover the remains of Hull's most famous dead parrot.
When the dual carriageway was first constructed between two derelict inner-city docks in the late 1970s, its route passed directly in front of the Earl De Grey pub.
At the time, the pub's landlord kept two talking parrots, Cha Cha and Ringo, in the bar to entertain customers.
One night during a break-in at the pub Cha Cha started to raise the alarm only to be stabbed to death by one of the burglars.
Regulars subsequently decided to bury her in the roadworks directly outside as a mark of respect.
Meanwhile grieving Ringo continued to pine for his lost mate and, according to local legend, never uttered another word again.
