THE parents of a little girl who died from a brain tumour have thanked the people of Cottingham for contributing items for a tea room in her honour.
Ellie Mowforth died in January at her home in the village, a year after she was diagnosed with a diffuse brainstem glioma – a rare tumour.
Since the tragedy, her parents, John and Lisa, have become licensees of The Duke of Cumberland pub in Cottingham.
On Saturday, June 29, the couple will open Ellie's Tea Room in the pub, which will sell a range of delicious hot drinks, cakes and sandwiches.
Mr Mowforth, who is still struggling to come to terms with his daughter's death, said: "This is our way of remembering our beautiful daughter.
"Lisa and I would like to thank the people of Cottingham, who have been wonderful and supported us these past few months.
"We would also like to thank them for providing us with cups, saucers, plates and cutlery needed for Ellie's Tea Room."
Mr Mowforth, who keeps a picture of his daughter behind the bar, said the tea room will stock a tea dedicated to Ellie.
"We are calling it Ellie's Strawberry Cream Tea," he said.
The couple continue to raise funds for Ellie Mai Fund, a charity they set up to help other families.
Cash will go to a variety of good causes, including When You Wish Upon A Star, a charity that sends dozens of sick children top Lapland each Christmas.
Ellie joined her parents on last year's trip and appeared in the Mail.
Ellie's fund will also raise cash for The Brain Tumour Trust.
Mr Mowforth said: "We want to do as much as we can to let people know about Ellie, while helping other families going through what we have."
