HULL FC prop Andy Lynch has told his side there's no need to feel sorry for themselves with everything still to play for this season.
Hull's players were forlorn following a woeful display in the south of France last weekend which saw them go down 30-4 at the hands of Catalan Dragons.
Having been given a light week of training and time off ahead of stepping things back up on Monday, last season's captain says the determination is there for Hull to right the wrongs of last week.
Admitting the result against Catalan still hurts, Lynch says it's important to remember the progress that has been made.
"It's all to play for. We are in a good position on both fronts, we have players like Danny Tickle back to fitness and competition for places is very tough at the moment," Lynch told the Mail.
"That will bring the best out of us again and we are ready for that next challenge.
"We've been on a good run, but we cannot forget about that last performance and it will stay with us until we play Castleford.
"The worst thing is having two weeks to dwell on it before we can put it right."
Hull return to action in seven days time when they travel to a Castleford Tigers team beginning to slowly turn things around under new coach Daryl Powell.
Defeat in France cost Hull their top-four position and while they are still sitting comfortably in a play-off position, head coach Peter Gentle will be eager to see his side put some breathing space between themselves and Hull KR, and a resurgent St Helens, who are on their heels.
To do that Hull need to rediscover the sort of form that saw them go unbeaten in May, winning all five games. It's a point not lost on Lynch.
"We weren't good enough against Catalan, we didn't play close to how we have in the last few weeks and we need to get back to that sort of performance against Castleford next week" he added.
"It was disappointing and we felt more for the fans after the game.
"A performance like that was disappointing but more so for the fans who paid all that money to go over to France to support us.
"Catalan were more enthusiastic, they had more energy and ran harder and tackled harder than we did.
"We didn't show Catalan what we are capable of. After a performance like that you can go home and start feeling sorry for yourself, or you can go back and start working harder, and that's our plan.
"Castleford will be a tough game for us because they've picked up, but we need to bounce back."
