HULL KR stand-off Travis Burns believes he and Rovers half-back partner Michael Dobson can lead the Exiles to victory over England tonight.

Burns says their partnership at club level will be a major benefit to the Exiles side, who only came together as a squad for the first time four days ago.

The pair have been working on their combination ever since the start of pre-season, but a number of missed games through suspension and injury has meant they haven't played together as often as they would have liked.

Against Huddersfield last Friday evening, Burns had his best game for Rovers while Dobson played the supporting role for a change.

"Having our half-backs from the same club side will help us a lot," Burns told the Mail.

"There are a lot of different players from different clubs here trying to play the same way.

"We have been building nicely and we know each other's game well. Hopefully, that will help us get the win."

Burns expects tonight's game to be as intense, as he knows whenever Australians take on England, the stakes are raised higher, no matter what the sport is.

"You only have to look at the cricket and what happened there," Burns said, referring to David Warner's fine for allegedly punching Yorkshire and England batsman Joe Root.

"Whatever the sport, we love taking on the Pommies.

"I never got to play representative rugby when I was playing in Australia so this is a nice honour.

"There has always been a fierce rivalry and I'm expecting a very intense match.

"It's a very good concept. I knew about the games back in Australia and I watched them.

"Even then I could see the games were a step up from the pace of normal Super League matches."

Burns is keen to give Steve McNamara's side the test they want as they prepare for this autumn's World Cup.

The former Penrith playmaker insists the Exiles have been taking this game very seriously.

"We are not here in this camp for a holiday, England want a test and we will give it to them," he said.

"They are a good side and it promises to be a tough game. Their squad looks good and we will have to put our best foot forward if we are going to beat them.

"The Exiles have a good record in this fixture and we don't want to ruin that. That puts a bit of pressure on us which isn't a bad thing."
