A DYING mum is dedicating her time to helping other cancer sufferers.
Vicki Haley, 40, was told she only had one to two years left to live after being diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer in May last year.
Now, the mum of four-year-old twins has raised more than £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, with more fundraising events in the pipeline.
Vicki, of Anlaby, said: "I was absolutely devastated when I found out my cancer was terminal.
"I kept thinking, 'I'm too young, I have four-year-old twins, this can't be happening to me'.
"Macmillan has been a brilliant support to me and their nurses are truly one of a kind.
"This is my way of saying thank you to them for all they've done."
Vicki raised £2,030 for the charity by hosting a Big Night In with 80 of her family and friends.
The event was part of Macmillan's nationwide campaign, which encourages cancer patients to get together with friends, in a comfortable setting, to have fun and raise money.
Vicki said: "We had an amazing turn-out and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.
"There were drinks, refreshments, a raffle and an auction with some fantastic prizes.
"I am still struggling to believe how much money we raised."
The event was held at her friend Sara Sutton's home last month.
Sara, co-owner of Kitchens By Design in Boothferry Road, said: "Vicki is an amazing woman.
"Her treatment has made her really tired and ill, but she still finds the time to help others."
Vicki is undergoing chemotherapy, which has left her feeling tired and weak. However, she has already organised her next fundraising event – a Wacky Wig Walk across the Humber Bridge.
The event, which will be held on Saturday, July 20, will see Vicki and her friends and family tackle the 2,200m walk while dressed up in green clothes and "wacky" wigs.
They hope to raise more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Vicki said: "I came up with the idea as I wear a wig and I thought it would be fun. I just hope the weather is good."
People from across East Yorkshire are being invited to join Vicki on the sponsored walk.
Anyone wishing to take part can meet Vicki and her team at the Humber Bridge café at 10.30am.
