HEADTEACHERS from an East Riding secondary school will rub shoulders with royalty when they dine with The Duchess of Cambridge next week.
Goole High School co-headteachers Danuta Tomasz and Dave Flowitt will be treated to a gala dinner with The Duchess, in what will be her last public appearance before she gives birth to her first child in July.
Mrs Tomasz and Mr Flowitt will attend the naming celebrations of the Royal Princess cruise ship in Southhampton.
The out-of-the-blue invite came thanks to the school's ongoing partnership with education specialist charity, SkillForce, whose patron is Prince William.
Speaking about the prestigious occasion, Mrs Tomasz said: "We were absolutely bowled over when we received the invitation and we are really excited about it."
Prince William has invited all the charities he supports, including SkillForce, to attend the naming celebrations of the luxury liner. The charity chose Goole High School as their representatives.
The school featured on national television when staff and students were filmed by the BBC for the launch of SkillForce's new mentoring scheme.
The scheme is run by ex-Armed Forces personnel who visited the school over the past 18 months to help raise aspirations and self-esteem among a selection of students.
The charity is currently working with pupils in Years 7 to 9 to explore the children's attitude to standards and values. A number of confidence building activities are also taking place.
Mrs Tomasz is looking forward to hopefully meeting The Duchess and telling her all about the work the school is doing to improve standards.
She said: "Apparently, this is the last public engagement for Kate before she effectively goes on maternity leave.
"The new liner looks absolutely stunning and it is a real privilege to be among her first guests.
"We are very grateful to SkillFoce for inviting us."
