HULL City are conducting their early transfer negotiations on 'solid business principles' and standing firm in negotiations with players and agents, sources have told the Mail.

It comes as the Tigers have opened early talks with a number of potential new additions, seek to hold off competition to re-sign loan star Ahmed Elmohamady and convince defender James Chester to commit to a new deal.

"What is clear is Hull City are determined to ensure any deal done is in the club's best interests long term, and they have to be credited for that," said an agent currently in talks with the Tigers over his player.

"At this stage of the year, players and agents are obviously looking to get the best deals possible, but Hull will not do a deal unless they as a club are 100 per cent happy, and in fairness, they are a good club to deal with as you know where you stand.

"When they were last in the Premier League and went down, Hull were left with many players on big contracts. What is clear this time is that they have an idea on what money they want to pay, what length of deal they want, and they are sticking to their guns."

Although City have yet to confirm any new targets, they are known to have made an initial enquiry for former Burnley midfielder Chris McCann, whilst also keen on striker Charlie Austin. They are also believed to be confident of winning the race to sign former Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa.

Despite national reports yesterday, manager Steve Bruce has not been approached by former club Wigan, or any other clubs, according to vice-chairman Ehab Allam.
