A POPULAR restaurant in west Hull has bounced back after being given a zero rating by food hygiene officers.
The Laundry, in Princes Avenue, has now been awarded four out of five after being reassessed by Hull City Council's environmental health officers.
A certificate is on display for customers to see and the venue continues to thrive on one of the city's busiest streets.
Officers visited the premises as part of the Food Standard Agency's national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, which has replaced Scores on the Doors.
A council spokesman would not discuss specific flaws discovered by its officers back in November of last year.
But the restaurant's manager, Sarah Silk, insisted it was not down to poor hygiene practice but because a manual had not been obtained.
She also invited diners to see the kitchen for themselves after the first inspection.
Although Ms Silk declined to comment on how the rating affected the businesses, she did confirm they have now been awarded four out of five.
The Laundry opened about two years ago and is one of the most recent additions to Princes Avenue.
The restaurant's website reads: "Our menu is lovingly cooked to perfection using fresh locally-sourced ingredients.
"We're not only passionate about food. For us it's about the whole experience, so not only will your plate of food be fantastic, we've also done our best to make sure that your dining environment is warm, welcoming, comfortable and beautiful.
"Our staff are friendly and approachable and are always open to feedback and friendly conversation."
Owners say it is a "home from home – without having to do the dishes" and boasts a nationally renowned head chef.
The Laundry's Facebook page has more than 800 likes and more than 3,000 people have used the check-in facility having eaten at the restaurant.
A total of 56 ratings are displayed on the page, giving it an overall four and a half stars out of five on the site.
Management have also posted a photograph of their new "good" rating from Hull City Council which was liked by almost 50 people who praised the kitchen staff and their Sunday lunches.
The city council was one of the pioneers of food hygiene scoring schemes when it devised the Scores on the Doors scheme.
It was such a success among businesses and customers that the Food Standards Agency introducing a nationwide rating scheme. The council adopted this in January last year.
