TELEVISION stars took part in a charity football match to raise funds to support people affected by long-term illness.
More than 1,000 people packed into Bridlington's football ground as a team of celebrities took on Russell Slade's East Coast Stars.
The event, which featured Emmerdale's Danny Miller, was raising funds for the Once Upon A Smile charity.
Mr Slade, current manager of Leyton Orient, said: "It's been a great event on a lovely day with a decent crowd.
"My team has been a mix of local talent, with players from the likes of Bridlington, Scarborough and Pickering.
"We were facing stars from Waterloo Road and Coronation Street – I'm not sure who they all are though as I don't have time to watch TV."
Mr Slade used to coach Scarborough AFC, who play their home games at Bridlington's stadium.
He said: "The first time I met these players was on the day of the match so the event hasn't been as stressful as it usually would be.
"I am happy to be here and raising funds for a great charity. It is fantastic for parents and children to give them a little respite and comfort."
The East Coast Stars' opposition is a group of players from the television and ex-professional footballers who raise funds for Once Upon A Smile.
In total, the team has raised more than £300,000 since being set up in 2007.
Dean Smith, an actor and comedian who is most famous for his role as Philip Ryan in Waterloo Road, was substituted midway through the second half for the celebrities' team.
"It's been a great day and a great atmosphere," he said.
"I had to come off because I got a bit of a knee strain.
"I do know the area as I used to come to Flamborough Head when I was younger.
"As the charity team, we've played all over the country from the City Ground in Nottingham to the Riverside in Middlesbrough.
"For me, it's all about coming to places like Bridlington. They have a personal feel about them."
Other celebrities taking part included fellow Waterloo Road actors Will Rush and Reece Douglas.
Peter Smurthwaite, chairman of Bridlington Town AFC, said: "It is a rare event to have the calibre of these people together in Bridlington on a bank holiday weekend.
"It has been a good atmosphere and a really family friendly event."
