Former Hull FC player Brett Seymour has said he wants to return to rugby after his suicide attempt.
Seymour says he planned to kill himself by driving off the Humber Bridge, but crashed his BMW on the way.
He is facing charges of drink-driving and failing to stop or report the accident in Itlings Lane, Hessle, on March 3.
Seymour told a national newspaper he was driven to contemplate suicide after Hull FC's 36-12 defeat at Widnes the day before, when he was criticised by fans.
He said: "Hull FC fans are great when things are going well but they can get on your back when they aren't.
"Mentally it was torture. I lost all sense of self-worth. It was a blur. I felt numb. I started to ask myself whether, if I died, it would matter to anyone."
Seymour recently returned home after being treated for depression at the Sporting Chance clinic in Hampshire.
He said: "I was lucky to end up in rehab and not six feet under. Now I'm craving being back with a bunch of teammates. If any coach could look me in the eyes, they would see I'm better and ready to play."
