A BUSINESSMAN preyed on vulnerable recruits in a 25-year reign of terror after they were sent to his training centre.

Nicholas Holbrook targeted young men sent to his training school Holbrook Training by their employers to learn to drive forklift trucks.

A jury of five men and seven women at Hull Crown Court found Holbrook unanimously guilty of raping and sexually assaulting two victims.

Now, another five men have come forward to report further allegations against Holbrook to Humberside Police.

They say Holbrook sexually assaulted them while they were on week-long training courses. One man said he was lured to Holbrook's office on the pretext of a job offer before he was attacked.

The honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, Judge Michael Mettyear, said: "The Crown says he sought to take advantage of young men who were shy, unhappy or isolated.

"They say he befriended them at the training centre where he appeared to be helpful and then became sexually suggestive towards them and then made physical approaches."

After the guilty verdicts were returned by the jury, the court heard Holbrook targeted two youths when he was a sergeant in the Territorial Army in the 1980s, indecently assaulting them.

They had reported the abuse and Holbrook, who insisted his innocence, was asked to leave but no criminal charges were brought against him following an internal investigation by the TA.

Judge Mettyear told the jury: "There were other allegations you did not hear about from the days when Holbrook was a sergeant in the TA. I didn't think it was fair to let you hear about that, so I excluded it.

"Because of that background, it is a case in which I will call for reports before I pass sentence. I'm calling for reports to assess the question of dangerousness but I don't think anything will arise."

The jury took more than five hours to return their verdict in the week-long case, convicted him of rape in 2002 and sexually assault in 2008.

Judge Mettyear deferred sentence for reports for three weeks, remanding Holbrook in custody until he returns to court.
