Muncy: Stingrays getting a bargain by signing me

SEAN Muncy believes Hull Stingrays have "bagged a bargain" by signing him for the 2013-14 season.

The 28-year-old Missouri native was confirmed as the club's second new face late last week, following in the footsteps of fellow forward Guillaume Doucet.

Muncy has spent the last two years in Europe with ESV Buchloe in Germany and Dutch side Eindhoven Kemphanen.

After leaving Brown University in 2009, he had two seasons in the Central Hockey League, mainly with Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

In his first season with the Killer Bees, Muncy led all CHL rookies with 33 assists and was named the South Texas All-Star MVP at the CHL All-Star Game.

Muncy said: "I really think the Stingrays are getting a bargain and an under-rated player in signing Sean Muncy.

"I work very hard on the ice and am a good locker-room guy who is there for his team-mates.

"I'm a good sized, speedy forward who excels on the bigger European ice.

"That little extra time it gives me to make decisions, and use my skill and my speed, is a big difference and I am excited to help the Stingrays in any way I can."

And Muncy is hoping to use his skills to make the Rapid Solicitors Stingrays "a team to be reckoned with" next season, given the side finished bottom of the Elite League.

The American knows what to expect from the league, having been a former team-mate of last season's Stingrays captain Kurtis Dulle.

"My goals for next season are to get Hull back into the play-offs and beyond," said Muncy.

"I know we will have a good team and I will do my part offensively and defensively to help with making Hull a team to be reckoned with.

"I know a couple of guys on the team and have known past players as well.

"They all have great things to say about the city, fans, and organisation and it is an honour to be a part of it now.

"I didn't speak with Kurtis although I do know him as a well respected player and captain.

"I know Sylvain Cloutier and Jereme Tendler a little bit from playing in the CHL and things just kind of worked out from there.

"Playing in Britain has always appealed to me and has actually been one of my main goals to achieve since coming over to Europe.

"The reputation of the league and country is top notch."
