MORE than 100 young musical maestros from the city are to perform on a national stage.
Three of Hull's orchestras have been selected to perform in the Music for Youth festival in Birmingham.
The jazz orchestra, percussion ensemble and Symphony Orchestra all won through from a regional heat, which was held at the Albemarle Music Centre, in Ferensway, city centre.
Groups from across the region played at the music centre in front of "music mentors".
The mentors assessed each group before discussing which ones they favoured to go through to Birmingham.
The results were then sent to London and it was decided from there which groups would have the chance to represent their city at the national festival.
Of the 3,000 groups that auditioned across the country, 274 were successful.
Chris Maynard, head of the Hull Music Service, said: "It is great because we are up against every other music service or school in the country that is doing this.
"So to get these orchestras as three of 274 taking part from 3,000 originally is brilliant.
"It will give them the chance to play at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, which is one of the best in the world.
"They will have the chance to hear other groups so they can open their ears and minds to other sounds. This also puts Hull on the map."
The city has a good record of having its musicians play at the national festival.
This year, 22 members of the City of Hull Youth Jazz Orchestra will play on July 6, 12 from the City of Hull Youth Percussion Ensemble on July 4 and 75 from the Hull Youth Symphony Orchestra also on July 6.
