Hull gardening firm dumped waste in public park

THE boss of a gardening firm has been fined £315 for dumping branches and leaves in a public park in Hull. Steven Atkinson was prosecuted by Hull City Council after a resident reported his firm, Steven's Garden Service based in Bainton Grove off Greenwood Avenue, for dumping green waste in Oak Road Park, Beverley Road Atkinson pledged guilty to fly-tipping when he appeared at Hull Magistrates Court. He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 costs and a victim surcharge of £15. Councillor John Hewitt, portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and communities, said: "Fly tipping is an offence that we will investigate. There are three recycling centres in the city which can be used for the safe and responsible disposal of waste. "We are grateful to residents who report fly-tipping and encourage anyone to report it to us so that we can maintain a clean, tidy environment for residents."
