ALEX Bruce will not play again during Hull City's run-in after scans on his injury sadly revealed the worst this week.
Just like Paul McShane, though, he can rest assured he's proved a lot of people wrong in helping the Tigers come this far in the Championship promotion battle.
Out of the whole squad, Bruce has perhaps been scrutinised more than any other player this season because of who his father is.
A few supporters will have been sceptical when he signed last summer but he's not let anyone down at the KC Stadium.
The majority of Bruce's games came where he was most comfortable – in a three-man defence.
That's where he performed consistently but even when he moved into a holding midfield role, I still believe he can hold his head up.
The first few games in that position barely saw him put a foot wrong and it was only when the team started to perform badly, most notably against Watford, that fans started to question him.
It's often the case. When you find a team is struggling, it's the players who don't create things who are the easy targets.
Throw in the fact his father is the manager and Bruce will always be one of the first people pick on.
That's unfair but part and parcel of being who he is.
Having such a high-profile father can't be easy but he's shown this season that he's more than able to handle that extra attention.
Losing him for the rest of the season is a blow because it leaves you back at square one with the defenders.
Jack Hobbs might be fit enough to play at Ipswich, which is a welcome surprise, but the loss of Bruce means there's only three to pick from for the run-in.
Steve Bruce is due a bit of injury luck and hopefully it will come with the three central defenders being fine for the last few weeks.
Abdoulaye Faye would be the biggest concern.
Although he was superb against Middlesbrough at the weekend, I'm not sure he would be asked to play three games in a week if all the defenders were fit.
He's an experienced figure who knows how to handle his body but Bruce will have to keep his fingers crossed the veteran can last.
