Offers for Hull KR: Hudgell says five investors interested

HULL KR say they have already fielded five enquiries from potential investors into the club for next season.

It comes just four days after chairman Neil Hudgell confirmed he and vice-chairman Rob Crossland are not prepared to bankroll the Robins next season.

Although too early to comment on the extent of any possible investment, or the likelihood of the offers coming to fruition, Hudgell said he was 'encouraged' by the early response.

"We have had five expressions of interest already, three are from overseas, and two are local," Hudgell told the Mail.

"Most are in the early stages obviously given they have come after my statement at the weekend, but there is one which is a little more advanced as we have been in contact for some time.

"It's too soon to say whether any of the others are serious or not, nor comment on the extent of any investment, but it is certainly an encouraging start."

Despite recent talks, the Mail understands Rovers will not be re-opening dialogue with Tony Larvin, who failed to produce proof of funds when promising investment at the turn of the year.

Hudgell indicated at the weekend that he may be prepared to remain involved in some capacity – ideally as a shared investor or as a sponsor – if the major financial burden could be lifted.

However, recognising his statement has caused some uncertainty over the club's long-term future, he said any talks would be entered into with extra caution.

"Given myself and Rob have made our position clear, there is now a danger that some may try and pick up the club for nothing," he said.

"By that I mean some may drag the process on to see if the club goes into administration.

"That would be morally wrong, and damaging to ours and the club's reputation, which is the last thing we want. With that in mind we are having to be selective on who we engage with.

"We are awaiting signed non-disclosure agreements, and proof of funding, before progressing anywhere with any parties."

Hudgell admits he had concerns over how fans would react to him and Crossland making it clear this year would be their last covering the continuing club losses of £500,000 a year.

However, he has been lifted by the understanding from the terraces.

"Generally people been hugely supportive and understanding of our position, and some have already offered to raise funds," he said.

"We won't accept that, it is not right, and while it may be a short- term fix, it won't provide a long-term solution.

"I have been encouraged by early response and we'll inform fans as soon as there is something concrete to tell, but not before. "We've had regular dialogue with the RFL and they are keen to ensure a smooth and successful succession."
