HULL City striker Gedo will not be risked for Saturday's trip to Ipswich Town unless he can prove his fitness to manager Steve Bruce before travelling tomorrow.
The Egyptian international has sat out training all week after aggravating a foot injury in the 1-0 win over Middlesbrough last weekend, a problem that has troubled him before.
It is hoped a rest period will enable Gedo to recapture full fitness for the run-in, but a question mark hangs over his involvement at Ipswich.
The 28-year-old is due to be assessed again tomorrow, but with crucial games against Wolves and Bristol City following within a week of the trip to Portman Road, the Tigers will opt for a cautious approach.
"He's certainly a major doubt. We've given him the week off full training to see how it settles down and we'll have a look at him again before we travel," Bruce told the Mail.
"It's been very sore. He broke a bone in his foot five years ago and it looks like he's aggravated it trying to block a ball.
"We'll just have to see how he responds to treatment but there's no point in taking risks with so many big games coming up."
Whether troubled by injury or not, Gedo has struggled to maintain the superb form that made him an instant hit in the Championship.
A run of five goals in his first six appearances followed his loan move from Egyptian giants Al-Ahly, but the striker's last five games have failed to bring a goal.
Even if fully fit, his place would not be guaranteed. Jay Simpson, whose hold-up play appeals to Bruce, returned to the side for the 1-0 win at Huddersfield and could again get the nod to partner George Boyd.
Nick Proschwitz and possibly even Matty Fryatt, out since August with an Achilles injury, could provide options from the bench.
