SHE may be 90 years old but Watford fan Marion Pool still made the long journey north to cheer on her team when they took on Hull City this week.
But Mrs Pool ended up in agony when she broke her shoulder in a fall outside the KC Stadium.
Despite the cold conditions and having seen their side lose the match 1-0, Tigers fans stayed behind to comfort Mrs Pool, covering her with their coats to keep her warm.
Her son Alan, who travelled up with his mother to see the game from their home in Cambridgeshire, said: "I would like to put on record my thanks to all the Hull City fans who helped my mum.
"She had to wait 30 minutes for an ambulance but they all took their coats off and helped me keep mum warm in the freezing cold.
"The Hull fans were fantastic. They are all a credit to the club and I hope Hull and Watford both go up this season."
More than 20,000 fans attended second place Hull's clash against third-placed Watford.
Mr Pool said: "The fans knew we were Watford fans and our team had beaten theirs. The St John Ambulance guy was brilliant and probably saved my mum's life with adrenaline, oxygen and motivating words until the ambulance turned up.
"I was so shocked at the time that I may have appeared a bit ungrateful to everyone who helped so I want to pass on my thanks.
"All the Hull fans I talked to were friendly as were all the helpful support staff in the stadium."
Last weekend Hull City fans faced travel restrictions to the match against Huddersfield due to West Yorkshire Police saying it would minimise the risk of rival hooligans clashing prior to the game.
Alan, who cares for his mother full-time, said: "She really likes the banter and enjoys listening the chanting. She comes to all the home games.
"We don't tend to go to the away matches, but with this being such an important game, we decided to.
"People may question why I take a 90 year old to football but, being her carer, I am keeping her out of a care home and she likes coming outside with me. It
stops her going downhill and stops her mind from deteriorating more rapidly."
Mrs Pool spent four hours at Hull Royal Infirmary and four hours in Cambridge Addenbrooks Accident and Emergency.
Alan said his mother is now on the mend, although she will have her arm in a sling for several weeks.
