Former Hull City footballer Jimmy Bullard is attempting to start a new career as a professional golfer. Bullard, whose career at the Tigers ended in injury and acrimony, is at qualifying school for the PGA EuroPro Tour this week. A top earner on the tour - the third division of European golf - can expect to earn less in a year than the £45k Bullard pulled in each week at the KC. But in an interview with today's Daily Mail, Bullard said the new venture was about trying to recreate the "buzz" of football. "Since I finished in football I've had no sport in my life, no football," he said. "I've always been geared towards something for the weekend, always had competition. "I've always loved my golf so I thought, Why not give it a crack?" If he qualifies at Frilford Heath next week, he will have a chance to follow in the footsteps of elite players including 2011 Masters winner Charl Schwartzel and 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen, who both started on the EuroPro tour. But scratch golfer Bullard, whose idol is Sergio Garcia, has no plans as of yet to target golf's elite. "There's no (standard) in my mind I want to reach, not the Ryder Cup or anything like that," he said. "Let's see if I qualify." Bullard was City's record signing when he joined from Fulham for £5m in 2009. He made just 23 appearances in two injury-ravaged years and was sacked in 2011 following an incident at a training camp in Slovenia. He went on to play for Ipswich and Milton Keynes before injury finally forced his retirement in October last year.
