A HULL actor has landed a leading role in a William Shakespeare play.

Jordan Metcalfe, a third year student at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, will perform at Shakespeare's Globe theatre in London next month.

He will join 41 other actors from the UK's top drama schools in Globe Education's prestigious annual Sam Wanamaker Festival, culminating in a performance on the Globe stage.

"It is a real honour to have been selected to represent Guildhall on such a big stage," he said.

"It is something I have had on the tick list for quite a while so I can't wait for the festival.

"I have been working professionally since I was 15 so to now have an opportunity like this is fantastic."

Jordan, 25, was selected by staff at Guildhall to perform at the festival after impressing in previous plays and is relishing the challenge of acting on a stage in London once again.

He said: "My teachers have put a lot of trust in me and I hope I can do the school proud.

"There will be a lot of people in the industry at the festival so hopefully this will be a springboard to other things and secure me work in the future."

Jordan, who has performed in the West End and at the Royal Opera House, will play the role of Brutus in a performance of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar at the festival on Sunday.

"It is quite a significant role in the play so it is quite nerve-racking but something that I am really looking forward to," he said.

"I used to perform at Hull Drama Festival and I will have to use all the skills I have developed over the years to do the role justice."
