WANNABE pop stars are being turned away from the queues outside Hull's Prospect Shopping Centre after about 500 people turned up.
The XFactor mobile unit is in the city for the first time giving people a shot at fame and fortune on Simon Cowell's TV talent show.
Although their was no sign of Gary Barlow or Louis Walsh, there were plenty of people singing and strumming guitars to keep warm in the bitter cold.
The audition deadline has been extended an hour to 6pm tonight as show bosses hope to unearth more of Britain's hidden talent in the city.
Ebony Mercedes, 17, sang Clown by Emeli Sande and said she had been queuing since 11.30am with the hope of impressing the team.
She said: "I'm studing beauty therapy at Hull College and thought I would give it a go because I've been singing since I was a little kid.
"I've wanted to apply in the past but it's been difficult to get to the likes of Manchester and Newcastle for the first auditions."
Fans had their eyes peeled for the show's crew and one shopper tweeted: "Just seen the XFactor Street team wandering around Hull city centre.
"Let's see if Hull has the next big thing."
