Gales cancel Hull ferry to Zeebrugge

P&O Ferries has cancelled a service to Zeebrugge in Belgium due to problems caused by bad weather. One of its ships, the Pride of Hull, was due for a refit in a Rotterdam dry dock earlier this month but gales were so severe it had to be delayed. That had a knock-on effect for repair work on sister vessel the Pride of York, which was due to sail for Zeebrugge on Sunday, February 8. Its repairs will now take longer to complete. The voyage has now been cancelled, along with a return trip to Hull the following day. Passengers booked on the outbound leg are being offered tickets to Rotterdam instead, leaving the same day. A spokesman said: "The root cause was a storm force ten gale. "Whilst it is unusual for us not to be able to dry-dock a ship as planned, with conditions like that we had no choice but to sit it out."
