HULL FC coach Lee Radford says it is important his new half-back pairing get used to playing in a match situation alongside Joe Westerman.

The loose-forward will make his first appearance of the year on Sunday when he lines up for the Black and Whites in the derby game at the KC Stadium.

A late arrival to training following his exploits in the Four Nations, Westerman's game time will be limited against Rovers, but Radford says it's crucial he gets three of his key players used to playing together.

"We will go with 23 players this weekend, with Joe Westerman the only one coming in who didn't play last week," Radford told the Mail.

"Joe has come in late and is behind a little so we'll limit his minutes, but it is important Leon Pryce and Marc Sneyd get used to playing with Joe on the field in a game."

Radford will field a near full-strength side against the Robins, while also using the game as an opportunity to try out a number of new combinations. Having impressed against Doncaster last weekend, Jordan Abdull will be featuring again at some stage in the halves.

Curtis Naughton will also get an opportunity to share the full-back responsibilities with Jamie Shaul, as well as showcasing his utility value.

"Curtis put his hand up and did well last week so we'll look at him again. He'll get a chance at full-back, but we'll maybe look at him out wide as well and see if he gives us more cover in that position," said Radford.

"It's a derby and of course we want to win the game, but it's important we get out of it what we need to in terms of preparation."
