NEW Hull United manager Curtis Woodhouse has moved quickly to make his first signing after agreeing a deal with Hull City legend Ian Ashbee. Ashbee will forever be remembered as the captain who took the Tigers from the basement division and into the Premier League for the first time in their history. As a pivotal part of the side which won promotion via the play-off final at Wembley in May 2008, he wrote his name into City folklore by helping to keep the side up in their first top-flight campaign. Although he retired from professional football in 2012 after a spell at Preston North End, Ashbee still lives in the area and has been persuaded to pull on his boots again by Woodhouse. The 38-year-old will start training with his new team-mates this week ahead of a playing return in the Humber Premier League. "I spoke to Ash a few months back and he said he was missing the dressing room banter, so as soon as I got the job I rang him to see if he would be interested in signing," explained Woodhouse. "Thankfully, he was eager to get involved and he can't wait to get stuck in. "He probably won't play every week, but his presence and experience will give our players a lift."
