Parents have been urged to be vigilant after a car approached a young pupil outside Endike Primary School in north Hull.
The child ran into the school on Wednesday morning and alerted staff.
Police and nearby schools were informed and parents were sent a text message alerting them to what had happened.
Linda Burrows, headteacher at Endike Primary Academy, in Endike Lane, said: "We can confirm that a child, on their way to school, was approached by an individual in a car yesterday morning.
"The child quickly ran away and reported the incident to a staff member.
"We immediately contacted the police, other local schools and our parents to ask that they are vigilant and take additional precautions."
