BEVERLEY will be on the route of the first-ever Tour de Yorkshire cycle race.
The three-day international-class competition at the start of May has been designed to build on the success of last year's Tour De France Grand Depart, which was held in Yorkshire.Bridlington has already been confirmed as a host venue for either the start or the finish of one of the stages.
Now, East Riding tourism portfolio holder Councillor Jane Evison has confirmed the riders will also pass through Beverley.
She said: "The route has yet to be finalised but it will include Bridlington and Beverley.
"We do know the race will go through here on Friday, May 1.
"We are working with organisers Welcome to Yorkshire to take full advantage of the publicity this event will undoubtedly bring to the area.
"We will also be working closely with local businesses because it will be a wonderful opportunity for them."
The Tour de Yorkshire, which will be televised across Europe, is set to be established as the country's second most-prestigious annual cycle race, after the Tour of Britain.
The full route details will be revealed on January 21, although Scarborough, York, Selby, Leeds and Wakefield have already been announced as the other start/finish locations.
Announcing the race before Christmas, Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "This is another huge milestone for Yorkshire as we position the county as the cycling heartland of Europe.
"This is the first Tour de Yorkshire. I am confident it will become a huge annual event and something that will raise Yorkshire's profile year on year."
