Humberside Police officers held a one-minute silence today as a mark of respect to the people who died in yesterday's Paris shooting. In what has been described as the worst terrorist attack on France soil since the 1960s, 12 people were shot dead after three gunmen attacked the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Thousands gathered for vigils in Paris to honour the victims, who included two French police officers, on Wednesday night. A vigil was also held in Trafalgar Square, London. It followed a tense day of lockdown in Paris that saw police stationed outside all of the city's schools, newspapers, train stations and religious sites. Officers across the Humberside Police area held a minute's silence at 10.30am this morning. A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: "Officers were encouraged to take part in the minute silence if circumstances allowed this morning. "It was not a formal arrangement and more down to an officer's personal choice." A suspected gunman surrendered to French police this morning. Two others, believed to be brothers of Algerian origin, remain on the run.
