RESIDENTS have spoken of their anger over work to upgrade electricity cables tore up a Bransholme green.
The work in Navenby Grove was carried out by Morrison Utility Services but residents claim workers have left the grassy areas damaged.
The company has apologised and said it will repair the damage.
"We have looked after the green for a couple of years now," said Callum Stark, 15.
"We looked after it so we could play rugby on it in the summer.
"But their lorries have wrecked it. It is going to take months to grow back now."
Callum said deep ruts had been left in the grass and bushes had been torn up.
Along with the deep ruts on the grass caused by lorries, residents said they have seen large nails and screws left by workers.
"I just saw a nail sticking out of the ground," said Jack Nevis, 16.
"I was shocked.
"I know young children who come out here to play and if they fell on one of them it would injure them badly.
"They were just scattered around the grass for anybody to see."
Craig Clifford, who lives on the adjoining street, said the area was in a mess.
"It is horrendous, to be honest," he said.
"The lads really worked hard to put this green right.
"It is really bad."
Teresa Davis, of Navenby Grove, said the work had destroyed parts of the street.
"It is a great mess and part of the pavement has been wrecked," she said.
"And what was meant to be a green space is now a wreck. The vibrations even caused things to fall off in my home."
Councillor Danny Brown, who represents the Kings Park ward, said that he was dismayed at how the area had been left by the company.
"The green that the residents use has been made a right mess of," he said.
"I thought it looked a complete tip, especially given that it is land that the residents respect and keep tidy.
"They attempt to look after it and it is a great shame."
Cllr Brown said he spoke to the contractors, who agreed to repair the green.
"It is work that is needed for the area," he said.
"I have had words with them and they have ensured us that they will restore all the damage that was done.
"They have reinstated the grass that was dug up.
"If it is not sorted out, we will chase it up again."
In a statement, Morrison said: "Essential works took place to upgrade electricity supply cables in Navenby Grove and other neighbouring roads in the area.
"Although this scheme of works required a number of excavations, we worked hard to ensure that any disruption and inconvenience was kept to a minimum at all times.
"Our aim is to restore the green as soon as possible and we are liaising with the local council to ensure that the green is top soiled and seeded as soon as weather conditions permit.
"We would like to apologise to local residents for any inconvenience caused."
