HULL KR chief executive Mike Smith has revealed Huddersfield Giants have an option to re-sign Rovers full-back Greg Eden in two years' time.

Smith told last night's Rovers fans' forum Eden's contract included a clause that could see the talented full-back return to the Giants ahead of the 2015 season.

However, it will only apply if Eden himself wants to return to the John Smith's Stadium.

"There is a clause in Greg's contract that gives him the option to return to Huddersfield," Smith said.

"But he has to want to go back there. There are some clubs we get on better with and Huddersfield are one of those clubs for us.

"Huddersfield were happy for Greg to come to us. Sometimes they want the chance to bring that player back.

"They have that chance after two years but he has to want to go.

"They have to entice him back and they have first choice on him but he can stay where he is.

"I think it was put in the contract to appease some of the Huddersfield fans who weren't happy to see him leave.

"It's the first time I've come across a clause like that."

Eden was brought in to replace Shannon McDonnell, who left the Robins to join Hull in the off-season.

Hull announced the signing in October after months of speculation that McDonnell had tied up a deal earlier in the year.

Rovers' chairman Neil Hudgell said it was 'fanciful' for the player to sign for the Black and Whites that late in the season.

"The story about Shannon going back to Australia with no club to play for and then suddenly finding a contract at Hull is fanciful," Hudgell said.

"I have an issue with the way it was done. There was a certain spin put on it. Shannon being on the front of Sunday's derby programme was a bit provocative.

"I do have an issue with how Shannon left the club. There was a certain amount of spin and I have to be careful with my words.

"Whatever you say about Paul Cooke when he took the walk across the river to us he left nobody in any doubt as to what he was doing.

"I don't have a problem with players going from east to west like Liam Watts last season and he went with our blessing.

"I think there needs to be a certain honesty about it all."
