Our Hull City reporter Philip Buckingham casts an eye over Hull City players' performances in their 0-1 defeat to Sawansea at the KC.Allan McGregor One of the few City players who could leave with his head held high. Wrong-footed by a deflection for the only goal of the game and a brilliant save with his legs denied Shelvey a precious second after the break. 7James Chester Fortunate not to be punished by a lazy header on the halfway that led to a Swansea break and this was not a vintage performance. The pace of the visitors' breaks gave him uncharacteristic problems on the turn. 6Alex Bruce A calf injury cut short his return to the starting XI and his steady performance drew polite applause from supporters. Tidied things up in the central role pretty well but it was not a watertight defence. 6Curtis Davies City's more glaring problems were at the opposite end of the pitch and the skipper was not the worst offender falling short. Came close with a headed chance before limping off late in the game. 6Ahmed Elmohamady A largely anonymous display from the Egyptian down the right. One cross, that brought Jelavic's header saved by Fabianski, was the only meaningful contribution as Swansea stifled his advances. 5Andy RobertsonStarman Perhaps the one City player that performed without fear or anxiety. So unlucky when his drive crashed into the crossbar and at times Swansea could not handle his pace. The one true ray of light. 7Jake Livermore An ever-present record will be lost following his fifth yellow card of the season here and that summed up an afternoon of frustration. For every good pass there was a poor one and he could not break up Swansea. 5David Meyler Much to admire when spoiling opponents' play but not nearly enough when trying to unlock the visitors' defence. City needed greater craft in the midfield but the Irishman could not deliver here. 5Gaston Ramirez Only a second start for the Tigers but he failed to justify Bruce's faith. Quick to fade away following a bright start and soon went missing when his side needed him most. Much more is expected from the on-loan man. 5Abel Hernandez Showed plenty of promise in the opening stages of the game when setting up chances for Jelavic, Ramirez and Robertson but was nowhere to be seen in the second half. More is expected from a £10m man. 5Nikica Jelavic Handled surprisingly easily by Swansea's central defence. Poor service came his way but struggled to pose problems for the visitors. One headed chance, saved by Fabianski, was as close as he came. 5Subs Sone Aluko (for Bruce 59) Unfortunate to be dropped and went some way to injecting some life into City's attack. 6 Harry Maguire (for Davies 77) A decent start to life in the Premier League. Read the game well and cleaned up nicely. 6 Yannick Sagbo (for Jelavic 81) Few expected to see the striker back in a City shirt but there was no impact made. 6 Not used: Eldin Jakupovic, Liam Rosenior, Stephen Quinn, Robbie Brady
