A Beverley pub that had been facing demolition will now reopen in the new year, after it was saved by a Lincolnshire brewery.
The Game Bird pub, which suddenly closed in the summer, was expected to be bulldozed for housing development.
But more than 100 residents signed a petition calling for the Holme Church Lane venue to be saved.
Their plea has now been answered by Lincolnshire brewery Batemans.
Stuart Bateman, managing director at the family-run company, is looking to reopen the pub early next year.
Mr Bateman said: "We have been pursuing the opportunity since the summer.
"It has been a long, drawn out process, but it was completed on Monday."
It will be the first pub in the East Riding for the brewery, which has the Bay Horse pub in Hull.
Mr Bateman said: "Beverley is an area we have always wanted to get into.
"When our beers are sold as guest beers in Beverley, they sell extremely well.
"The pub is in the kind of community area where we like to have pubs.
"We will be reopening it as a hub-of-the-community pub with cracking accommodation."
The company, which has passed through four generations of the Bateman family, is adding the Beverley premises to its portfolio of 63 pubs, which are mostly in Lincolnshire, the Derbyshire Dales and Norfolk.
Mr Bateman said: "In terms of Beverley, we have done quite a lot of research into the economy there.
"We have looked at the tourism side of things, we have looked at the number of people who go there and the attractions, such as the racecourse, the minster and shopping.
"We have also, unbeknown to the local community, been drinking in the area and we think this can be a really successful venture."
The Wainfleet company is in the final interview stages for managers, before employing staff and organising training ahead of opening.
Ward Councillor Dominic Peacock said: "More than 100 people signed a petition in opposition to the pub being demolished for housing.
"It shows that, if you stand up and protest and you show an interest in something, you can make a difference."
Ward Councillor Kerri Harold said: "The pub, which was previously called The Grovehill, was refurbished at the beginning of the year and relaunched as The Game Bird after major investment.
"It closed suddenly a few months ago and developers put in a planning application to knock the pub down and put eight houses on the site.
"A public meeting was held and residents insisted it was vital to keep these community pubs open.
"This pub had been revitalised after undergoing massive refurbishment and residents were really proud of it.
"We know there is a lot of uncertainty within the pub trade at the moment, but this pub is right in the middle of the community and residents were keen for it to be saved."
