IT IS a dress that may cause a bit of a stink in traditional party wear stores.

A woman from Hull has made what she claims to be England's first dress made entirely from toilet roll.

Unemployed Angela French, 46, spent three months making the dress, which took more than ten rolls of toilet paper to complete.

She is now going to put the dress up for auction on eBay and donate the proceeds to local food banks.

Ms French, of Riby Court in Orchard Park, north Hull, said she was incredibly proud of the final result.

"It is a beautiful dress," she said. "It is all hand-made and all hand-stitched so that nothing can fall out.

"It is like a wedding dress. I don't think there is one like it in the whole of England."

She said people had initially been sceptical about the design but were won over when they saw the dress in the flesh.

"When I mention that I have made a dress out of toilet roll, people don't believe it, but when they see it they love it," she said.

"I am really proud of it and I don't really want to part with it, but it is all for a good cause."

Ms French said she made a dress six years ago using toilet roll she used to take home from work, but had not attempted another until recently.

"I broke my ankle this summer and managed to get the time to make another one," she said.

"Everything has to be fully made out of toilet roll – there can't be any cheating at all.

"I was going to make a handbag out of toilet roll to match it, but just need to find a bit more time."

She said whoever bought the dress would be the envy of all her friends.

"It's every little girl's dream to be able to wear a toilet roll dress as gorgeous as this," Ms French said.

"They would be princess of the ball for the day.

"There are a lot of people out there who don't have anything special to wear for Christmas Day.

"I think this is it."

Ms French said she wanted to donate the proceeds to the food bank at Endike Community Centre, where she used to work, along with others.

"With the money I raise, I'm going to buy the food for them," she said.

"There are a lot people out there who have got nothing for Christmas.

"Whatever I raise, I want to donate to them.

"I want to help them."

She said she was inspired to make the dress by an annual toilet roll wedding dress competition that is held in the US.

"The ones over there go for something like £3,000," she said.

"Just imagine if mine went for that."

American tradition of flushing brides in its tenth year

TOILET paper dresses may be relatively unknown in the UK, but they are not thought so bizarre across the pond.

This year, the US played host to its tenth annual Toilet Paper Wedding Dress competition, where hundreds of contestants battled it out for the top prize of $10,000.

The toilet paper designers also make headpieces, purses and decorative veils.

Even Pippa Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge's sister, made headlines a few years ago when she was photographed in a toilet paper dress at a dinner party.

Angela French, the Hull woman who has made what she claims to be England's first dress made entirely from toilet paper, says hers goes a step further than Pippa's effort.

"Mine is actually much better – there's a lot more effort gone into it," Ms French said.

"It is a beautiful dress."
