Hull City's DJ Campbell chase 'moving forward slowly' - but Billy Sharp rumours wide of the mark

Hull City manager Steve Bruce remains optimistic of winning the race to sign Queens Park Rangers striker DJ Campbell.

Talks are ongoing between the two clubs as City attempt to finalise a deal.

The Tigers face competition from Championship rivals Crystal Palace and Watford, but Bruce is hopeful he can secure the 31-year-old's signature.

Sources yesterday told the Mail negotiations were "moving forward slowly" towards a pleasing conclusion.

Campbell is the Tigers' number one attacking target ahead of next Thursday's transfer deadline but speculation of an interest in Billy Sharp has little credence.

Southampton striker Sharp has no clause in his Nottingham Forest loan to terminate his spell at the City Ground this month and would be unable to sign for the Tigers this month having already played for two clubs this season.

City's interest in Egyptian striker Gedo would not have any bearing on the Tigers' attempts to recruit Campbell.
