A MAN has been found guilty of manslaughter after shooting his partner's son-in-law.

Peter Guy, 54, was cleared of murdering Jonathan Smith, 38, outside his home in Melton Old Road on May 20.

However, a jury at Hull Crown Court rejected Mr Guy's claim he acted in self-defence - which would have seen him cleared of all charges - and instead convicted him of manslaughter.

Mr Guy used a sawn-off shotgun to shoot Mr Smith in the leg and back as he repeatedly reversed his Ford Transit truck into Mr Guy's van.

Moments before the shooting, Mr Guy had been stabbed twice in the neck by Mr Smith's 15-year-old son.

The pair had travelled to Mr Guy's home with another man armed with a knife, machete and axe.

It followed an argument with Mr Guy and his partner Jane Herring - Mr Smith's mother-in-law - earlier that day.
