A new report that outlines the proposed price hike says it is necessary because the fees set when a new licensing regime for the industry was introduced last year underestimated the cost of administering the scheme.
If agreed by licensing committee councillors next month, the new charges will come into force in April. Under the proposals, the cost of an application for a new site licence will double to £300 while renewing a licence will cost £240.
The committee is also being asked to approve a suggested 5 per cent increase in taxi licensing fees.
That would see the cost of new hackney carriage or private hire vehicle licence increase from £128 to £134.40, while the fee for a new drivers' licence would rise from £77 to £80.85.
A 2 per cent increase is being recommended for other licences issued by the council.
These include street trading, zoos and sex establishments, which currently have to pay £2,000 a year for a licence.
