The FA Cup 2014-15 third round draw will be held on Monday, December 8, at The Deep in Hull, when Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer will be joined by East Riding grassroots coach Paul Adamson to draw the teams. Trudi Davidson reports.

HE WAS "shocked beyond belief" when the call came to say he would be doing the FA Cup draw with football legend Alan Shearer.

East Riding grassroots coach Paul Adamson will line up alongside former Newcastle United and England star Shearer for the FA Cup third-round draw from The Deep in Hull, on live TV.

Mr Adamson, who scooped coach of the year and volunteer of the year at the East Riding County FA Community Awards, thought it was a wind-up when he got the call.

The amateur coach, who runs a pan-disability side at AFC Tickton, is now preparing to team up with BBC pundit Shearer on Monday, December 8, for the draw.

He said: "When I got the call to say I'd been chosen to draw the third round of the FA Cup, I was shocked beyond belief.

"At first I thought it was a wind up."

Adam Lowthorpe, of the East Riding County FA, said: "It is fantastic that a grassroots volunteer has been asked to do the FA Cup third-round draw alongside Alan Shearer.

"Paul works tirelessly fulfilling a variety of roles within AFC Tickton, giving lots of young people the opportunity to play football.

"I'm sure he will enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Mr Adamson said he felt "humbled" when his volunteering was recognised with the two awards for doing something he loves.

Young footballers at Tickton, where Mr Adamson also coaches the club's under-12 Tigers, are sure to be excited by their coach's surprise call-up for the famous FA Cup draw.

Mr Adamson said: " The children will be thrilled when I tell them about the draw and I'm so excited for them to be part of it too, with the BBC Get Inspired team filming them at a session."

Mr Adamson's son Oliver, 11, is also a coach who has clocked up more than 130 voluntary coaching hours.

He is the youngest in the country to be part of the Football Futures programme.

The FA Cup draw, which will be shown live on BBC Two at 7pm on Monday, December 8, will see the introduction of Premier League and Championship clubs as they look to start a cup run that leads to Wembley.

Teams from lower leagues looking to kick-on from the second round will be hoping for a big away day at the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea or Hull City – last season's beaten FA Cup finalists.
