A MAN accused of murdering a relative in his garden told a police 999 call operator: "I've took the gun and I've shot him, my love."
Peter Guy, 54, is accused of murdering his partner's son-in-law Jonathan Smith, 38, outside his home in Melton on May 20.
He denies murder but has admitted five associated firearms offences.
A recording of a 999 call made by Mr Guy's partner Jane Herring was played to the jury at Hull Crown Court.
After what appeared to be the sound of gunshots, a man's voice said: "I've ruined my life, Jane. I've ruined me life, I've killed him."
After further exchanges, the man took over the call and told the operator: "He's tried to hit me and I've pushed him away and his son stabbed me in the neck twice.
"I'm bleeding like a pig then he's started smashing the place up. So I've took the gun and I've shot him, my love."
The operator said: "Right, what's your name?"
The man replied: "Peter Guy."
The court heard that Mr Smith, a landscape gardener, was shot in the back at close range with a sawn-off shotgun moments after being "disabled" by a shot in the leg.
He had been using his vehicle to ram into Mr Guy's property, including a shed and his van, before being shot. He was sitting in the driver's seat when he was wounded.
Mr Guy had earlier been stabbed twice in the back of the neck by Mr Smith's son with a sheath knife, the jury was told.
Mr Smith was sitting in the driver's seat when Mr Guy fired his illegally-held weapon through the wound-down driver's window, into his left thigh.
The shot was fired from an estimated distance of one to two metres.
The second shot was from a distance of 60cm to 100cm and hit Mr Smith in his right upper back, killing him.
Timothy Roberts QC, prosecuting, said: "To discharge a sawn-off shotgun into a man's upper chest cavity where the vital organs are located, at this range, is consistent only, say the prosecution, with an intention on the part of Mr Guy to kill Mr Smith."
Describing the weapon, he said: "It was a sawn-off shotgun, modified to be as manoeuvrable as a hand-held pistol. It had two barrels, and therefore, two shots.
"Jonathan Smith, from the driver's seat of the crew-cab vehicle, must have seen that he had been wounded with a double-barreled shotgun that was pointed at him, and must have realised that Peter Guy had another shot left, and this may explain the location of the second gunshot wound."
The court heard Mr Smith had been angry about his daughter visiting his grandmother at the property and had been to collect her earlier that day.
He returned in his Ford Transit truck at 5pm with his 15-year-old son, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, and another man, who has not been named.
Mr Smith, who was more than four times over the legal alcohol limit for driving, had travelled from Doncaster and sent a text message to his brother Jacob on the way, which read: "You will have to come and bail me out after this mission."
A machete, an axe and a knife were later recovered from the driver's door pocket in the truck.
The trial continues.
