Bransholme residents have welcomed the opening of a new sports shop at the North Point Centre. Branded opened its doors to the public at the weekend, creating nine jobs in the process.
The store sells a variety of gear, from gym wear to trainers and casual outfits. And talks are under way with Hull City about selling club stock.
It has been a successful period for the Goodhart Road site, where almost every unit is occupied and Iceland has begun work on expanding its existing store.
Centre manager Louise Smith said: "We are really pleased to welcome the new sports shop to the centre. I am confident it will be a big success here because it offers a variety of sports clothing at very good prices.
"It has created nine jobs – six full-time and three part-time – and that is always good news.
"We are going through an exciting period in the build-up to Christmas and we now have almost every unit full."
North Point's fortunes have been boosted in the past 12 months by the opening of coffee shop Caffechino and a new Hull FC store. Meanwhile, fruit and vegetable store O So Fresh and sandwich bar Broome's have both switched to bigger units at the centre.
Bransholme West councillor Phil Webster said: "We have a fantastic facility in Bransholme that attracts thousands of shoppers every day. It is a social hub as well as a great shopping hub.
"It is good news to hear that a new sports shop has opened in the area. There are many people, young and older, on the estate, who love their sport and to have a shop like this on their doorstep can only be a good thing.
"From a general point of view, it is obviously brilliant to see business is doing well at the centre. It has gone through a big turnaround and is now thriving as a result."
Bransholme resident James Clark, 33, said: "I go into North Point Centre three or four times a week.
"I am a big sports fan and I can't wait to get in there and have a look at the new store. The centre has improved in the past couple of years."
