Hull City: Why Robbie Brady should not replace Andy Robertson for Manchester City match

For all of his goal-scoring heroics, I don't believe Robbie Brady should be brought back into Hull City's starting line-up, writes Dean Windass.

Hull City v Man City team news

The boy has done very well coming off the bench for City in recent weeks, scoring at West Brom and also getting on the board in the Europa League against Lokeren.

But Steve Bruce must play his strongest eleven on match-day – and for me, you cannot budge Andy Robertson from that line-up.

The Scot is a better performer in those areas and I believe his speed is what is keeping him in the side.

There are a few question marks over his defending, which have been tested in recent weeks, but at the minute Robertson would be my first pick and long may it continue.

Brady has been unlucky with injuries over the past 18 months or so, but now we're seeing him get back to his best.

What he needs now is to get a few games under his belt to reach his full potential. But where are those games going to come from?

Quite simply, Bruce has no other option but to send a few players out on loan, given the strength in depth of the squad at present.

You cannot keep a full 25-man squad happy when only 14 are playing every week.

I remember when I dropped out of the team when City were back in the Premier League and I found myself on loan at Oldham Athletic.

I made the wrong decision at the time – I should have gone to Doncaster – but I knew when I wasn't being named on the bench that my time was up.

Players like Stephen Quinn, David Meyler and even Tom Ince now need to step up and really stake their claim for a starting spot.

However, letting leads slip to draw at Newcastle and then lose to West Brom when in control isn't the way to impress your manager. It has to stop.

Hull City must not sit back

It has been a week to forget for the Tigers, but today's match can be the perfect remedy.

The champions are on fire after scoring seven in midweek against Sheffield Wednesday and although Hull City are a much better opposition, Manuel Pellegrini's team are starting to hit their stride.

On the back of a cup exit to West Brom and a draw at Newcastle, a test against the big boys is just what Hull City need at this stage of the season.

What worries me is that Steve Bruce's side may sit back and invite City into the game. If they do, they'll be punished heavily.

There are no excuses now. This Tigers squad is in their second year together and they should know what Manchester City can do inside and out.

Not many fans will be expecting a result from today, but the least they desire is a performance to be proud of. It will be tough, but the Tigers have to make the visitors feel as uncomfortable as they can.

Hopefully, Hull City can produce a similar performance to the one they showed against Liverpool at home last season. On that day, the Reds became nervous and the crowd has to do exactly the same to Manchester City this afternoon.

The Blues produced two great performances against Bruce's men last season, even when they were down to ten men at the KC in March.

They have the individuals that can beat anybody, but it's a team performance from the Tigers that will see a positive outcome today.

I can't see Bruce sticking to his 11 from West Brom, and I predict we'll see wholesale changes to the side.

Whatever team he fields, they will have to give it their all to get anything from the match.
