I DON'T think anyone will argue with the fact Steve Bruce has assembled the best squad in Hull City's history.
It's a team laden with undoubted talent and strength in depth that has never before been seen at the KC Stadium.
Just one look at the side which stepped out at West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night underlined that fact.
Bruce made 11 changes, but could still bring in eight internationals to field a team which I believe is better on paper than the one which started the majority of games the last time City were in the Premier League under Phil Brown.
It's a squad built to challenge on four fronts. The trouble is, the Tigers only remain in two competitions now and with the FA Cup not set to start for over three months, Bruce has a major headache on the horizon.
Put simply, the City manager has too many players and not enough games.
City's standing in the reserves set-up is a further spanner in the works, because it's not going to help the likes of Alex Bruce, Harry Maguire, Yannick Sagbo or Paul McShane by playing on a Tuesday night against reserve teams from non-league sides and League Two opposition.
The squad is simply too big and even with the manager making occasional changes, he's not going to rotate his players often with just one Premier League game a week to contend with.
Bruce has underlined a few times since the start of the season that he has no plans to loan any players out, but I can see that philosophy changing now following the League Cup exit.
If I was one of those players not regularly featuring I'd be banging on the manger's door asking to go out somewhere to play games.
I'd be surprised if a number of City's fringe players are not doing the same thing in the next couple of weeks.
It's a far better situation to be in than being short of players, but surely four or five will now go out on loan.
For a start there is an abundance of centre-halves and even playing a five-man defence would still leave a number of players out of the side.
Some players will be patient, and they'll have to be. Others won't and we could soon see some movement out the club in the not-too-distant future.
