Police have cordoned off a row of shops in Beverley Road, Hull, after a man was allegedly assaulted in broad daylight.
Forensics are on the scene, close to the junction with Strand Close.
A crime scene investigation van, police car and ambulance were all called to the scene at shortly after 11am.
A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: "Police are currently in attendance at an incident on Beverley Road in Hull, which was reported to police at 11.17am.
"An area believed to be the scene of an assault has been cordoned off and one man has been taken to hospital.
"Police enquiries are in their early stages."
Amy Wilson, 62, who lives in Strand Close said: "There is blood on the pavement and police everywhere.
"It is shocking. There are all sorts of rumours flying about. A man has been hurt and you always worry when there are police officers and forensics everywhere."
